Waterview home between Long Beach & Good Harbor Beach, Gloucester MA 01930

Did I mention that it was priced below $1,000,000? It is currently listed @ $895,000. I think it offers good value for a large (3300sf), 4 bedroom,14 year old home in this premeir location with water views.

The water views that can be found at this location are many: open ocean, Boston skyline, up the  Annisquam River and working waterfront all from one vantage point. The lot size is small (2,740 sf) and the home has not changed hands since 1963. Assessed at $440,700 and priced to reflect the value of a 360 degree water view in Gloucester MA homes at $2.4 million, one thing can be assured:the taxes will be changing!

Avalanche WareHouse Outlet in Lynn MA - Sale this weekend!

Avalanche Cold Weather Fleece Coat

Remember when outlets were secrets among girlfriends?  It was almost like getting the password to an after hours club. If someone didn’t take you there, you would never ever find it yourself! There were no signs to new “outlet” malls. There was no merchandise, specially manufactured for the “outlet brand”. Usually, it was at the factory itself, where the merchandise was produced. It was only open, when the machines weren’t running. It was run, not by hired hands, but the owners them selves. Best of all, prices were always wholesale or less. If you’re old enough to recall these shopping memories or savvy enough to have found an outlet like the one I described, you will love Avalanche.  It is in a factory building next to the YMCA in Lynn. Enough said.  Get yourself there! It is open Friday, Saturday & Sunday 10 to 4PM. It specializes in good quality fleece wear (Polartec, and other performance fabrics).  Warm, warm, warm  and technical sports fabrics are used for jackets, tops, vests, pants and hats. They have men’s, women’s and children’s wear.  There are sample clothes and other materials used besides fleece, such as 4 way stretch, wick away, wind and water resistant types.  You will find these products in well known catalogues, for instance Eddie Bauer or Sahalie  The owners were working the sale there last weekend and could not have been nicer or more helpful.  Treat yourself to a visit for cold weather warm wear!

Scumbling in Gloucester MA with Melody Phaneuf

Scumbling??? Is that scrubbing the crumbs off the floor or some such surface ? It could be ! but to an artist

it is a painting technique. It is painting a light color over a dark color using a dry brush & dryish paint on a textured surface. Ultimately is creates a “soft” look.

Scumbling by Melody Phaneuf

It is used to create a light or a veiled effect. Melody Phaneuf uses it in her work in both ways and especially in her snow paintings. In Melodys paintings the effect she achieves with her oil work has been compared to the “softness” of working with pastels. Scumbling is used to create a “fuzzy” effect, a translucent effect or in the case of the Dutch Masters the light effect.

Still curious about scumbling? Melody Phaneuf has a Snow exhibit currently displayed at Bank Gloucester (160 Main St., Gloucester MA 01930) where this technique is instantly recognizable!
